AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger – Unboxing

The AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger (Model # CC-S2), arrived in the now-familiar brown cardboard box.  Inside is the AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger, a multi-language User Guide and the usual AUKEY warranty card.

AUKEY Car Charger with 24W Output Unboxing

The AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger itself is housed in a gray aluminum alloy material that gives it a nice feel and finish, instead of the black plastic that we are used to seeing for these types of chargers.

The charger measure just 0.9” (24mm) in diameter and has an overall length of just 1.6” (42mm).  Each side has a spring loaded metal ball as well as a spring loaded center tip to ensure good contact with the power terminals in your vehicle.

The AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger is rated for 24W output and the top edge has two (2) standard USB-A ports, each rated at 5V/2.4A output which will support simultaneous full power charging of two devices.

The AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger is more than just a pass-thru power adapter.  It has built-in safeguards to protect your devices against excessive current, overheating, and overcharging.

AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger – Test Results

Like charging cables and power packs, there isn’t much we can do to test the AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger, since in reality it either works or it doesn’t.

We tried the AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger in a couple of different vehicle power ports and in each case, it made solid contact.  We charged two iPhone XS units at the same time without issue.

We liked the overall size of the AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger.  Most car manufacturers have moved away from putting “cigarette lights” in automobiles and have instead, labeled them as 12V Power Ports.  In reality, all they really changed is what gets inserted into it.  The outlet itself hasn’t really changed at all.  That said, the AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger is almost identical in size to the original cigarette lighter element and as such, the flush fit design may let you leave the charger installed in the power port and still be covered.

AUKEY Car Charger Low Profile Design

We have owned several car chargers in the past, some of which had a built-in charging cable.  While that sounds like a good option, we found it to be a negative as we struggled to find ways to modify the cable as technology changed, like when Apple moved from a 30-pin connector to the Lightning connector.  Because the AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger has standard USB-A ports, it can be used to charge virtually any device if you have a compatible cable.

The Bottom Line

Although most cars come with at least one USB charging port, there are times you need extra charging capabilities.  You may also be using a vehicle you don’t own or use on a regular basis, like a rental, and want/need the ability to charge your devices.  For these and other reasons, it’s a good idea to have access to a cigarette/power port car charger.  The AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger is the perfect companion to keep in your car or gadget bag.

The gray aluminum alloy outer shell is a nice complement to any car’s interior and the dual 2.4A USB-A ports give you enough power to charge your iPhone and iPad without issue. The AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger (Model CC-S2) comes with the usual AUKEY 45-day return policy and 24-month warranty against manufacturer’s defects, and is available on the AUKEY web site.

While we are partial to the gray aluminum, the AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger is also available in black if you prefer to match your vehicle’s interior.

We would like to thank the folks at AUKEY for providing the AUKEY Dual Port Car Charger for our testing and review.
