Kovol Sprint 65W GaN Wall Charger

We recently reviewed the Kovol Sprint 65W Desktop Charger (read our review here). This 4-port charger sits on your desktop and provides ample ports to charge your mobile devices as well as your laptop.

We mentioned that because of its compact size, it would also make a great travel companion. But for some, the larger size and separate power cord might be more than they wish to deal with.

Kovol Sprint 65W GaN Wall Charger – Unboxing

In the box is the Kovol Sprint 65W GaN Wall Charger (Model #: KV-PC007), a User Guide and a Thank You card with information on how to contact Customer Service if needed.

The charger measures just 2.16” square x 1.33” thick (54.86mm x 33.72mm), and will easily fit within an accessory bag, large pocket or purse. This makes the Kovol Sprint 65W GaN Wall Charger about 53% smaller than the 61W Apple charger that came with our 2017 MacBook Pro. It weighs just 4.02 oz (114 grams).

Kovol Sprint 65W GaN Wall Charger – Specifications

The Kovol Sprint 65W GaN Wall Charger is a self-switching power supply with input current of 100-240V, 50/60 Hz and 14A. Our test unit had a regular U.S. two-prong plug which folds into the unit when not needed making the charger even more compact.

On the front of the unit is a single LED which glows blue when the unit is powered. Below that is a standard USB-A port which supports QC output of 5V-3A, 9V-2A, 12V-1.5A with 18W Max. Finally, there is a USB-C port which supports PD Output of 5V-3A, 9V-3A, 12V-3A, 15V-3A, 20V-3.25A with 65W Max.

The Kovol Sprint 65W GaN Wall Charger allows you to use both the USB-A and USB-C ports at the same time and has “Intelligent Power Distribution” depending on which port is connected first and the power requirements of each device being charged.

Kovol Sprint 65W GaN Wall Charger – Test Results

The Kovol Sprint 65W GaN Wall Charger worked well and did what is was designed to do, charge our devices.

Koval says the Kovol Sprint 65W GaN Wall Charger can charge a 13” MacBook Pro to 50% in 45-minutes and our testing seemed to confirm that. We connected out 13” MacBook Pro with the battery level at 47%. About 40 minutes later, it was up to 89%.

We also had no issues charging our MacBook Pro and iPhone simultaneously, although we did not time how long it took to charge them both to full power.

The Bottom Line

Like many people, we used to be Apple purists and only wanted to use the power adapter that Apple supplied with our laptop, iPad or iPhone. This was due in large part to the fact that third-party power supplies were unreliable, and worse, could cause damage to your equipment. But times have changed and so has the reliability of third-part power products.

We feel confident that the Kovol Sprint 65W GaN Wall Charger is not only safe to use, but like the fact that we no longer need to carry multiple chargers when we travel. Having the ability to charge our MacBook Pro with a smaller, easy to transport charger was enough of a reason to switch from the Apple charger. Being able to charge multiple devices from the same compact unit is a bonus, and lightens the load in our gadget bag.
