Edifier X3 True Wireless Earbuds – Unboxing
One of the main points of the Edifier X3 Earbuds is its compact size and that carries through to the packaging as well.
In the box are the two X3 earbuds, the case to carry and charge the earbuds, a USB cable to charge the case, two extra sets of rubber tips (three sets in different sizes in total) and a multi-language User Guide.
The charging case measures 2.0” wide x 1.5” high x .75” thick. Raising the lid reveals recesses for the two earbuds. The earbuds connect to the charger by way of two spring loaded pins set into the case for each earbud and meet with the connection points on each earbud. The connection is magnetic to ensure a solid connection.
Mounted on the rear of the case is a micro-USB port. The included charging cable will connect to any USB-A port to charge the case on the earbuds. When charging a single LED on the front of the case lights up.
Each earbud also has a single LED to indicate its charge status and also blinks red and blue to indicate it needs to be paired to your device.
Edifier X3 True Wireless Earbuds – Set-up
With the Edifier X3 True Wireless Earbuds charged up, we put our iPhone Xs into Bluetooth discovery mode and removed the earbuds from the case. The instructions indicate that if not previously paired, the earbuds will automatically appear in your Bluetooth list. While that happened, it was a little confusing as the illustration implied that you would see each earbud in the Bluetooth listing. We only saw one earbud but selecting it did pair both earbuds to the phone so it appears you can pair either the left of right earbud and the other earbud will automatically connect.
After the initial pairing, the Edifier X3 True Wireless Earbuds will automatically power on when you open the case and then connect to your iPhone or iPad.

Edifier X3 True Wireless Earbuds – Test Results
The Edifier X3 True Wireless Earbuds were some of the easiest we have used. There are no buttons. Everything is controlled via touch on the end of the earbud. We especially appreciate that either earbud can be used for each command so there is no need to remember if you need the left or right earbud to accomplish your task. Here are the controls.
Command Touch either Earbud Accept/end a call Single click Pause/play music Single click Next track Double click Previous track Triple click Voice assistant (Siri) Press and hold for 2 seconds
Unlike most wireless earbuds, we had the controls committed to memory after trying them once.
We liked the small size of the earbuds and found them to be very comfortable. In the past we found some of the styles to be uncomfortable and hard to put in the ear. The Edifier X3 True Wireless Earbuds were a good fit and stayed in the ears. The automatic noise cancellation was exceptional which probably contributed to the sound quality.
Our only complaint is that with their small size, it may be difficult to get them out of the case at times.
Like color, no two people hear sound the same way and it can be a very personal thing. What sounds great to one person may be mediocre to someone else. That was very much our experience.
One of our testers thought the sound was one of the best earbuds he ever used. The base was clear without being over-powering while the high end was crisp and bright. Vocals were sharp and there was plenty of volume.
Another tester, who admittedly is a big fan of her AirPods and uses them to judge all other wireless earbuds, thought the sound quality was very good but not quite as good as the Airpods. That said, she admitted that compared to other wireless earbuds tested, these were certainly excellent.
The Bottom Line
Overall, we think the performance of the Edifier X3 True Wireless Earbuds was excellent. They were comfortable and while one of the smallest wireless earbuds we have tested, the sound quality was a top performer.
We especially like the easy touch control. Not having to remember whether we touch the left earbud or the right one for a specific commend made learning the functions quick and easy.
The Edifier X3 True Wireless Earbuds is available in both black and white and is available from Amazon for just $33.99 with free shipping for Prime members.
And remember our tester that said the sound was good but didn’t think it compared to AirPods? When we revealed the price of the Edifier X3 True Wireless Earbuds, she had a different opinion and said, for their price, the Edifier X3 True Wireless Earbuds were a great value and definitely worth consideration.
We would like to thank the folks at Edifier for providing the Edifier X3 True Wireless Earbuds for our testing and review.
