EZQuest 120W GaN Wall Charger

When Steve Jobs introduced the first iPhone in 2007, it not only transformed the cell phone industry, but launched a variety of third party industries for accessories.  Almost overnight, companies started offering alternative cases, cables and of course, wall chargers. Each offering something a little different from the options offered by Apple.

Over the years, the options for wall chargers has grown exponentially with some estimating that in 2021, it has become a $6.8 Billion market, and could reach $17.3 Billion by 2031.

EZQuest 120W GaN Wall Charger - Front

The EZQuest 120W GaN Wall Charger measures 3” long x 2 ¼” wide x 1 ¼” thick (77mm x 57 mm x 31.75mm). That’s about 35% smaller than the Apple 96 watt wall charger.

The front of the charger has a single USB-A port and two (2) USB-C ports under it. This provides the user with a wide variety of charging combinations.

The USB ports support the following charging outputs.

  • USB-C1: 3.3-20V/5A (PPS), 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/5A (Max 100W)

EZQuest 120W GaN Wall Charger - Foldable Plug

On the rear is a standard US, 2-prong 120V AC plug. We like the ability to fold the plug completely into the body of the of EZQuest 120W GaN Wall Charger. This makes for easy storage and even easier packing, when it’s time to hit the road. Most of the wall chargers we have reviewed to date do not offer this feature.

EZQuest 120W GaN Wall Charger – Features

The charger employs what EZQuest call, “Intellegent Power Allocation”. This allows the EZQuest 120W GaN Wall Charger  to charge, a single MacBook Pro 16-inch at 100 Watts or two at 60 Watts each simultaneously. You can also charge three devices at once, one tablet at 18 Watts and two MacBook Pro’s, one at 65W and the second at 30W.

Think of the convenience of being able to charge your MacBook, iPad and iPhone, all at the same time, using a single charging device.

The EZQuest 120W GaN Wall Charger is a self-switching 120/240V wall charger making it perfect for use outside the US.

We love that EZQuest included a 2-prong European adapter with the EZQuest 120W GaN Wall Charger. More importantly The adapter is specifically designed to slip over the US plug prongs, while they are folded into the charger. This not only saves space, but eliminates that problem we often have where the weight of the wall charger cannot be supported by the female end of the US to European adapter and either falls down, or has to be supported on the bottom.

EZQuest 120W GaN Wall Charger - USB-C Cable

Finally, EZQuest includes a USB-C cable to connect the wall charger to your device to be charged. But this isn’t any ordinary cable with a cheap plastic or rubber jacket.

For starters, the cable is a full six feet (2 meters) long. Our experience with included cables is that they are usually woefully too short to be useful. It’s refreshing to see EZQuest include a cable you can actually use.

EZQuest calls this a “DuraGuard” cable. It starts with a Kevlar core and has a nylon braided outer sheathing. On each end is a heavy duty strain-relief which protects the strong aluminum connectors. In addition to all that, the DuraGuard cable is E-Marked (Electronically Marked). An E-Mark cable contains a chip to communicate between the EZQuest 120W GaN Wall Charger and the device being charged. This ensure safe data and power delivery to and from the source and device. EZQuest says the cable has been bend tested over 50,000 times.

We certainly understand EZQuest electing to include a cable with USB-C plugs on both ends, and this certainly works well for anyone with a fairly recent Apple laptop. That said, we were a little disappointed that they did not include a USB-C to USB-A adapter to make the included cable a little more versatile.

EZQuest 120W GaN Wall Charger – Test Results

One thing the EZQuest 120W GaN Wall Charger has in common with all of the other wall chargers we have reviewed is limited ability to test it. As we have said many times before, a wall charger is one of those items that either work, or does not.

In our testing, we used the EZQuest 120W GaN Wall Charger to charge our 13” MacBook Pro and iPhone 13 Mini, both individually, and together, and it worked well.

The wall charger is powered by Gallium Nitride (GaN) Technology. This is one of the newest technologies and is being used by most of the higher quality wall charger manufacturers. GaN technology allows the wall charger to be two times smaller than traditional silicon based chargers. It also has all of the protections you have come to expect in a premium charging product including, over-current, over-voltage, over-temperature, and short-circuit protection for your charger and devices. It also has built-in NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) Technology to keep the charger cool.

The Bottom Line

No one will ever argue that Apple products are expensive. But it’s also obvious that people who use Apple products are willing to pay a little extra for high quality. If you are looking for a high quality wall charger, that comes with just about everything you need to quickly and safely charge all of your Apple gear at home, in the office or on the go, the EZQuest Ultimate Power 120W GaN USB-C PD Wall Charger is a great choice.

The EZQuest Ultimate Power 120W GaN USB-C PD Wall Charger comes with an 18-month manufacturer’s warranty and is available from Amazon.

We would like to thank the folks at EZQuest for providing the Ultimate Power 120W GaN USB-C PD Wall Charger for our testing and review.
