Nomad Titanium Band for Apple Watch

When Apple released the first Apple Watch (which some people refer to as Series 0), it included the ultra-expensive Apple Watch Edition, made of 18-karat yellow or rose gold, and had a starting price of $10,000.  By the time the Series 2 was released, Apple abandoned the 18-karat gold idea and instead, offered the Apple Watch Edition with a ceramic case, and a more reasonable price of around $1,300. With last year’s introduction of the Series 4, Apple stopped offering an Edition version.

In a bit of irony, while the most recent Edition models had a ceramic case, most of them came with the same vinyl band that came with even the lowest prices Apple Watch. While you, the wearer, knows you are wearing an expensive watch, those around you would probably not be able to tell the difference.

To make your Apple Watch dress to impress, you are better served by pairing it with a beautiful watch band and one of the nicest we have seen is the Nomad Titanium Band for Apple Watch.

Nomad Titanium Band for Apple Watch – Unboxing

We have reviewed other Nomad products like the Nomad Battery Cable, (read our review here),  and the Nomad Shell Cordovan Strap for Apple Watch, (read our review here), and was impressed by the fact that they pay as much attention to the packaging as to the product it contains.  The Nomad Titanium Band for Apple Watch is no exception.

Upon opening the box, we found a fabric pouch that can be used to store the watch band when not in use.  Lifting the storage pouch revealed the Nomad Titanium Band for Apple Watch neatly held in place by elastic ties at each end.

Not packed in the box but included as part of the purchase is a tool, used to remove links from the band so it can be sized to your individual needs.

The tool is similar in design to link removal tools we received with other metal link watch bands except while those were made of plastic and left us feeling it could break at any time, the Nomad tool is made of metal and has the look and feel of a quality tool that will last a long time.

The other big difference, as you can see in the picture above, is the adjustable base.  While most removal tools have a solid edge that the band rests on, the Nomad tool has a dial that allows you to raise and lower the platform so that the tip of the tool needle aligns with the pin in the band.  This made adjusting the band much easier.  Nomad even includes extra needs to ensure the tool is always in perfect condition.

Nomad Titanium Band for Apple Watch – Specifications

As the name implies, the watch band and buckle made titanium, which is extremely strong while also being very light weight.  The connects on each end of the band is made of 316 Stainless Steel which is extremely durable and has a chemical composition that resists corrosion from harsh environments like sea water and de-icing chemicals.

The black titanium band also includes a Physical Vapor Deposition, or PVD coating which is a vacuum coating process that produces a brilliant decorative and functional finish. PVD utilizes a titanium nitride that provides an extremely durable coating and is more resistant to corrosion from sweat and regular wear than gold plating.

The Nomad Titanium Band for Apple Watch has a total of sixteen links, eight on each side of the clasp, of which 5 on each side are removable.  Depending on how many links you remove, the band will fit a wrist from 5.3” (135mm) to 8.6” (220mm).

Nomad Titanium Band for Apple Watch – Testing Impressions

As is usually the case, we needed to resize the Nomad Titanium Band for Apple Watch for a better fit.  Using the provide link removal tool, we removed two links (one from each side of the clasp), which resulted in a very comfortable fit.  This made the band tight enough to not rotate on the wrist from ordinary movement, but loose enough to not pinch or pull.

Like most metal link style bands, because it is a single unit, it can be difficult to attach the band to both ends of the Apple Watch, if one connector is fully engaged in the watch.  It is recommended that you attach the band laterally.  That means you should slide the connectors into both ends of the watch and slide them into place together, so the band does not “twist”.

Using this technique, we found the installation of the band very easy and once in place, very secure.

The color of the black Nomad Titanium Band for Apple Watch is slightly darker than the Space Gray Series 3 Apple Watch, but that contrast is a nice complement to the overall look of the watch.

The clasp was very secure and provided a click sound to confirm the band was completely closed.

Some of the metal link style bands we have tested were a bit heavy and by the end of the day, was ready to take it off.  We wore the Nomad Titanium Band for Apple Watch almost 24-hours per day for a week and found it to be extremely comfortable.  Because titanium is a light weight metal, the band is much lighter than what you might expect.

As a premium band, the Nomad Titanium Band for Apple Watch is more expensive than many bands we have looked at but for anyone that wants to greatly enhance the look of their Apple Watch, it is money well spent.

The Bottom Line

Although Apple has discontinued the Apple Watch Edition, it doesn’t mean you can’t make your Apple Watch a showpiece.  By adding a premium band, anyone can own an Apple Watch that is ready for a red-carpet event.

The Nomad Titanium Band for Apple Watch is a beautiful addition to any Apple Watch band collection and adds a high degree of style without compromising comfort.  It is available in Black and Silver, will fit all Apple Watch styles, Series 1 – 4, and has an MSRP of $179.95.
