Lokithor J401 - Unboxing

In the box is Lokithor J401 Jump Starter, the battery jumper cables with the connector needed to connect to the main unit, a USB-C to USC-C cable, used to charge the unit, a USB-C to USB-A cable which is used to charge an external device, a 12 volt vehicle power plug which can also be used to charge the unit and a User Guide.

What’s missing is a USB-A to Lightning connector to facilitate charging an iPhone but that is a minor issue since you probably already have that available.

Lokithor J401 - LED Light

On the front (the end with the integrated light), is the connector for the jumper cables. The cable and the ports are “keyed” so they can only be inserted one way. Once connected, the red end is the positive and the black is negative. Because the plug is keyed, there is no change of accidently connecting the wrong cable to the battery terminals.

Lokithor J401 - Charging Ports

On the back end are the ports for the other cables. The USB-C and 12V ports are used to charge the internal battery while the USB-A port is an Output port for charging you iPhone, iPad or other devices.

Lokithor J401 Jump Starter – Features

While most people are willing to help out when someone has a dead battery, there is often the underlying fear that connecting their battery to your car’s battery could cause damage to your own electrical system. A stand-alone jump starter eliminates that worry.

While that main purpose of the Lokithor J401 Jump Starter  is to start a dead battery, This is not your father’s jumper cables. The Lokithor J401 Jump Starter is packed with features.

Lokithoir J401 - Charging Indicator

The top of the Lokithor J401 Jump Starter has a built-in display that provides a wide variety of information regarding the units status.

At the top of the screen are the power status bars. This four segment LED lights to tell you the current internal battery level. When being charged, the segments flash as the charge level increases and all four segments remain solid when the unit is fully charged.

The Lokithor J401 Jump Starter supports PD charging and indicates “FAST” when PD charging is occurring. We used a PD charging brick to initially charge the unit and found that it takes about 1 hour for each 25% increase in battery capacity.

Other indicators on the screen include, Power In (Charging), USB Power Out, Abnormal Jump Starter Indicator, Abnormal Temperature Indicator and Voltage Indicator.

Internally, the Lokithor J401 has all the protections you would expect from a quality product including short-circuit protection, over-current protection, reverse connection protection, over-heat protection, over-time protection, spark-proof technology and clip falling off protection.

The main power button is located behind the status screen and is used to turn the unit on and off as needed. There is also a button towards the front of the unit to control the built-in LED light which has three setting, solid white, flashing red and SOS red.

Lokithor J401 Jump Starter – Usage

At first glance, the Lokithor J401 Jump Starter looks a bit intimidating, especially when you figure out all that it can do. But the included User Guide is well written and does a nice job of explaining exactly how to use the unit.

In addition to the normal method of jump starting a vehicle, the Lokithor J401 Jump Starter has a “Forced Start” mode. This provides an extra boost of power to a battery that is extremely depleted (less than 1 volt).

Lokithor J401 - Battery Voltage Tester

The Lokithor J401 Jump Starter also has the ability to act as a voltmeter, to test the voltage of a battery even before you try to jump start it. This is a great way to diagnose if the problem is really the battery, or some other vehicle malfunction.

The Lokithor J401 Jump Starter is capable of starting up to an 8.5L gas engine and a 6.5L diesel engine and can hold an internal charge up to 24 months.

Our only disappointment (and it is a minor one), is that there is no included bag to store everything in. Given all of the cables and connectors, it would have been a nice touch. That said, the box it comes in is sturdy and has a place for everything and would not be a bad alternative to keep everything together in your vehicle trunk.

The Bottom Line

Regardless of the age or condition of your vehicle, you never know when you are going to discover a dead battery or come across someone else who does.

If you have a newer car, you may have free roadside service. If you have an older car, you may have a service like AAA, or roadside coverage through your auto insurer. Those are all good options but we’ve all heard stories about people being stuck on the side of the road for hours, waiting for help to arrive.

Having the Lokithor J401 Jump Starter, puts you in control and can get you going in a few minutes.

With its huge internal lithium polymer battery, the included variety of cables and the easy to use controls, it is worth having this in your car at all times.

The Lokithor J401 Jump Starter comes with a 12-month manufacturer’s warranty. You can find it and many other Lokithor options available from Amazon here.

We would like to thank the folks at Lokithor for providing the Lokithor J401 Jump Starter for our testing and review.
